Many Before Us.

JOE FEARN
Many before us.
There is an imp of the perverse,
like chewing a stone all day
for the sheer joy of taking it out
of your mouth,
hiring a car to keep in the garage,
or buying a return ticket,
and not going back.
Or, best of all,
take your ugliness
over to her and beg.
you say you did that already?
you are not new pal.

Impish and perverse itself, pleasurably so, Joe. If I was N, I'd take my ugliness AND this poem over to her and beg. Tom

I'm wondering about the simile. If/when I read without the 'like' and change up a few words [chewing to chews, etc.], the work seems closer -- but that could well just be me, my read.

Joe, much to enjoy here, love the inner imp. Not sure about the change of tense in S3.... My mind's eye likes it as "taking"....
Will be back for more reads, k

ditto for me - perversly impish - impishly perverse - both delightful!
