The craft of angling is catching fish. The art of angling is a
receptiveness to those connections, the art of letting one
thing lead to another until, if only locally and momentarily,
you realize some small completeness.

Stella,
I'm glad! Yesterday I was at my office and have a new orchid on my desk.
I looked at it a long time and suddenly thought "My god, what an engine it
took to make that model run!" Thus, the poem--

Great idea, Ken. Does it have to be "horsepower", though? That sets up (in me, anyway) an expectation of some horse-related significance - or a pun, at least.
There's clearly power under the hood, but could it be something else?
Just a thought.
Actually, it's just occurred to me that in Britain we would say "under the bonnet", and that would work as well, although it would need to be reworked slightly.
Cheers

David,
Your note put a bee in my bonnet!
How about:
power-house
Ken ?

I can see this has already been totally overhauled several times, so let me get one avatar quoted here. This is a fascinating genre, the 2 word poem including title, well worth exploring more, Ken, as this thought-provoker proves. Tom

Tom,
What if I get to blank paper
and am left with virtual poems
signifying everything based upon
nothing at all? Then it's time to go.

Don't know about that, Ken, but there's something here that I find stirring, and it can only be the distance between the two words. If there were more closely connected, it would mean little. If they were more disconnected, I suspect the same. But this distance between "orchid" and "power-house", for me, is powerful. Probably that "golden mean" is different for each reader. Tom

Tom,
Well-said, I agree.
Thanks
