  Pope John Dies (Rev.)
« on: February 09, 2010, 07:42:40 PM » by Ken Robson
Death stood by his usual--

labored breath, gray pallor
and cold clammy skin,
a rasping cough.
One final moan
mistaken for a prayer.

The craft of angling is catching fish. The art of angling is a
receptiveness to those connections, the art of letting one
thing lead to another until, if only locally and momentarily,
you realize some small completeness.

Ken I remember when the Pope died thinking about all the caskets inside of caskets they put him in and all the layers of clothing, and I thought 'he doesn't care about that stuff now', and I understood his funeral was for the living, just as they always say.

So I'm not so sure about everything being ordinary and don't think any angels appeared to human eyes, but I do believe he especially knew he was an ordinary man who lived an extraordinary life.

Five great lines, Ken. Basta. -Tom
Death stood by his usual--

gray pallor, labored breath,
rattles and a rasping cough.
One final moan mistaken
for a prayer.

An ordinary end.
No angels.

Tom, what do you mean by 'Basta', the 5 inner lines?

Cheryl,

What a thoughtful rersponse! When
the pope died I heard the reports on
NPR and wrote this piece some days
later.

Tom,

I know what you mean but the envelope
needs licking at the end it seems
to me. Without the final couplet even
death feels at a loss!
