I remember reading an Anglo-Saxon poem in which a father ended up facing his own son in battle, each on behalf of their different lords. Can anyone help me remember what poem?? Thanks, Tom

I was reading Anglo-Saxon poetry a while back as research for something I was writing. (And still haven't finished) There isn't much of it. Was it part of Beowulf? A lot of family members get axed in that!
Maybe it is a later poem? You sure it's Anglo-Saxon? Maybe Germanic? I'm on a search now! That stuff fascinates me!

Oh, Lavonne, thank you! It must be Hildebrand I'm thinking of. Now I can't remember if my anglo-saxon teacher somehow snuck it into his wordhoard (I thought it was this class) or if I read it in medieval german lit...
The gal--who taught the boy to fight? I'm SO interested in that too. Anyway, let me be off to have my fun with it now....appreciate your SO LEARNED help!!! Tom

You da gal!!
Here's a draft of it.
Hildebrand v. Hadubrand
I am your father,
the warrior said
to his opponent.
The boy bawled,
Do I look green
enough to fall
for such a trick?
I have been told
my father's dead
and so shall you
be soon enough!
If you will not
accept the gold
from my arm
then here's my neck,
the father said.

Oh, Lynn, Maggie and I were collaborating on a fantasy story involving 'ancients' who pytorate* into a contemporary Wyoming town, and who while protecting their own origins are able to help a 'good ole boy' sheriff capture a serial killer.
I think there are a couple of prose pieces on it posted on the prose board.
*pytorate - Our word. Perrera, the main character, haslain dormant in the desert ground for thousands, nay, millions of years. When a Wyoming gal happens to 'expend' some of her energy righto n the spot where he lies, he is able to enter her body.
One of the background pieces on the female character's mother.

I love to read contemporary versions of the "old" stuff.
