Poetry & Poets in Rags of July 13th
« on: July 13, 2010, 01:53:00 PM » by rus bowden
Dear Poetry Aficionados,

Poetry & Poets in Rags blog

We begin this week's list of news links with matters of "states versus poets". In the first, poet Xasan Cabdulaahi Aadan-Sagal opens his door and is shot dead by Woyane militias, no questions asked, just shot dead because they have guns and they can. In the second, Johnny Spencer pleads guilty to threatening US President Barack Obama with a racist poem, when apparently there was no threat, no one ever believing he was doing anything but writing a bad poem, which reminds me of another absurd prosecution in the UK, the case of Samina Malik, who wrote a bad poem about how to behead someone. The third is the case of state-executed poet Miguel Hernandez, whose family wants the Spanish government to go a step further than the "declaration of reparation" that has been issued, wanting a ruling of innocent.

These three articles are followed by links to some terrific poetry, discussions of poetry, interviews with poets, profiles of poets, reviews of poetry books, and more. Be sure to check out our Great Regulars section after surfing through News at Eleven. The most common reason Great Regulars are great, is that they so regularly issued articles that made the weekly cut into News at Eleven.

Thanks for clicking in.

Yours,
Rus
