In case you missed the recent television appearance by John Yamrus on BCTV, the complete episode can be viewed online here:
http://www.bctv.org/special_reports/arts/vmix_caecf33e-aee4-11e0-85a2-001cc4c03286.html
. In what can only be described as a one man wrecking crew, despite no questions asked by the host in the first twenty-two minutes, Yamrus never missed a beat and just kept delivering bomb after bomb. Yamrus read selections from his newest book
Can't Stop Now!
, as well as from his
Doing Cartwheels On Doomsday Afternoon
and
New And Selected Poems
. This was certainly not a show to be missed!
Enjoy and please show your support by posting a comment on the show page, as well as sharing the link with your friends.
Thank you!

Link fixed. If there's an issue now, let me know. Rob
And thanks Wolf. It's a great appearance in more ways than one.

You're quick! I was just about to repair the link! Yes, John delivered the goods! I don't know anybody else who could've performed so well in a void. Yamrus might've missed his calling as a no-limit poker player - because he clearly has ice water running through his veins. If anybody is keeping score that's Yamrus 2, zombies 0.

Yes, that was round one between Yamrus and the zombies! It remains my favorite 30 minutes of television - ever! Despite the host's attempts to throw Yamrus off his game, John just kept detonating bombs! The show became one of the most popular episodes of Poets Pause. Although the host couldn't recognize a good thing sitting in front of him, the producers and viewers could - and by popular demand, Yamrus was asked to return less than a year later.

this is local cable TV and without the gentleman who you brand as a Zombie
there would probably be no poetry program.

Yes, and if you condone Arnold's treatment of Yamrus then you're a zombie as well! Why don't you wake up and argue about something meaningful - instead of just arguing for argument's sake. You remind me of a hen squawking about nothing.

i have to agree with wolf on this one. there's a whole back story to this that i won't go into. needless to say, i wasn't brought back because of the host wanting me back. on the contrary, i was asked back because the higher-ups at the station wanted me back because that previous show in support of my previous book was such a success for them. as you could tell by this show and the hosts god-awful reading of a god-awful poem, it's abundantly clear that he's a fan of more mainstream (read boring and predictable here) work and not a supporter of mine. by clamming up and throwing me to the wolves things back-fired and i more or less had the entire show to myself. in fact, while the program IS a local production, it gets traded with other local stations around the country and shows up in a great many markets. that one from last year was ultimately shown in New York City and Philadelphia that i'm aware of...two rather large makets, to be sure. but, anyway, you do what you gotta do to get the books sold. and when it was over, i hightailed it outta there as quick as i could.

John,
The host's lack of professionalism and personality was the best possible atmosphere for you. Between the two shows you have almost 60 minutes of airtime all to yourself. Seriously though, I can't think of anyone who would've handled the situation as well as you.

thanks, man. the first show caught me off-guard as he somewhat rudely introduced me and promptly proceeded to zone out. for the second appearance, i was prepared for more of the same, and took full advantage of the situation.
thanks.

That you not only had your poetry neatly marked but also the segway bits down in the second appearance was magnificent! It actually looked like that was the way the show was supposed to run.

and if you watch it, you'll notice me glancing off to my right...that was to look at one of the camera people who was holding the cue cards for the attention of the host (who wasn't paying attention). that meant that in addition to handling my own duties i was watching the time and pacing myself and my readings accordingly. but, that's just the way it goes sometimes.

dear Wolf
i don't condone the host at all......and if you must know i had a lengthy talk with John about him right after the first show a year ago
and am very well informed on the subject of the events that transpired.
if you feel that i too am a zombie that is your perogative,
i just don't see the need to put someone down in a condescending derogative way
just because they may not posses exemplary talents in what they are doing.
i happen to have purchased a number of Johns books and use his poetry in workshops that i teach
so i do not see that in order to be a supporter of John that one needs to make some one else out to be a fool.
and by the way i happen to have enjoyed your poem in Beyond The Broken Bridge
and while you may see me as a zombie then let me tell you that i purchased 80 copies of that issue
to hand out for free .....so just remember this zombie has been promoting you too or maybe you find that
also squawking about nothing.
