  Working On
« on: April 12, 2007, 05:30:31 PM » by Jay Dougherty

I'm working on my third
book right now,
the second rejected
three days ago, though
I just found out about it
in today's
mail. I figure,
why keep sending out
a rejected book
when I can send one out
that hasn't been
rejected?

Such logic gets me
places. Look: I'm
already on my third
book.

The first I skipped
entirely.

A rejection is not a chalk outline--keep going.

This was written long ago. Funny thing is the software industry seems to have adopted the logic - or come to the same conclusion. Previously nonexistent programs are now regularly released as "version 2.0" or higher.

:)

So the next time you submit a manuscript, I suppose it's okay to say something along the lines of "I would appreciate your reviewing my 14th book of poetry," even though the other 13 may have existed only in your imagination.

This poem made me smile, in part because of the topic, but more so because of the humor delivered in the (very well-crafted) lines. I could tell as the lines skipped along that they were leading me to a smile... and they didn't disappoint!

I like the spirit of the poem's speaker.
