  Ssshhh, I Can Hear You
« on: September 20, 2007, 10:18:13 PM » by larry jordan

Ear and wall merge murmur,
 sharp and trill gleanings.
As luck would have it
coherence insulates wanted from not
 while doorways cipher nothing
                   going in and out.

She asked what     (ear plugged)
blushing under pressure
tentative in double take
as one side adores itself
egging consensus out of dialogue.
At a certain pitch
                   puppies chase their tails.

Everything about this pleases me!

"coherence insulates wanted from not" Such a line!

and those last two lines are killer.

Its a pick for me after the others get a chance to read!

I don't get the basic situation.

I often use this phrase, but probably not in the way your suppose to, and its good, but, wow, a puzzler, but, fun to figure.

Well, I'm sure you've heard the phrase "If walls could talk..."  I took it from there and went with it. I saw it as a woman in conflict with herself. BUT who knows what Larry was inspired by. Maybe I saw a bit of myself in the poem.  It did delight me.

I get the puppy-chasing-its-tail feeling every time I hear a high-pitched zing in my ears - We all hear it every now and then; its one of the myriad hairs that conduct sound into our bodies, singing a swan's song. Weird but it makes me a little sad.

I'm rambling, I know. Poetry affects me that way.

I think I feel the same way Lavonne does, though I never would have been able to express it.  I love this one.  For me, the opener sets the stage -

"Ear and wall merge murmur,"

and then, a certain pitch and puppies chasing their tails, (a bit of comfort, yes I'm strange don't ask) I was so pleased to have read this!  Very nice!!
