Postcards to Emily.

(with regard to E. Dickinson)
One –
Bees will hum a happy tune
to carry out their mission.
Not to eat but make honey
their primary ambition.
But for their sting – I feel
they have an honorable position.
Two –
There’s a chance to be content
while contemplating flowers;
some blossoms persuade me
to stop and stare for hours.
Despite the sneezing -- I decree
these blooms delightful company!
Three –
My daughter solemnly defends
the honor of sluggish snails;
admiring their dawdling glide,
following their slimy trail.
She suddenly became alarmed
to learn that they devour sprouts;
they now disappear like weeds –
Out! Out! Out!
Four –
The moment when I see a park,
your mind can see a forest -
dragon, princess, castle filled
as it spreads out before us.
Oh, to see with a child’s creation --
the world becoming imagination!
Five –
I have but one intent – such common goal –
Divine in nature to view unfold;
as heard in every blade, leaf and bird –
seldom seen but so much more preferred.
All will sing if I but cease to word -
long enough for Grace to be conferred.
(I wrote this a few years back for my daughter....I'm sure it needs help with punctuation though some of it is Dickinson inspired (dashes etc) / clarity? any help much appreciated -- xo M)

Numbah 1 comes the closest for me to the tongue-in-cheek Emily. The last one starts to whip around the syntax and diction the way she does when she's making cosmic verbal moebius strips. It's so good to read some Cronk again!

"It's so good to read some Cronk again!" Must use rick's line from above. Much, much enjoyed, Michelle.

Lovely these, Michelle. Don't know how close you feel you must keep to E D, but I'd take the caps off Divine and Grace in Five.
WILL be picked, by me later, but suspect some other will jump in first.

I might just be an old drunk but i like this poem. I would have changed the 3rd line a little maybe "not to eat but to make honey
their primary ambition"
But i thoroughly enjoyed it and tahnks
